LANXESS shuts down ion exchange facility in the United States
Some 90 employees to be affected by closure in Birmingham
In May 2008, LANXESS is to close down the production facility of the Ion Exchange Resins business unit in Birmingham, New Jersey, United States. This production and marketing center is run by LANXESS’s wholly owned subsidiary LANXESS Sybron Chemicals Inc. "Despite all our efforts, the production of ion exchange resins in Birmingham is no longer competitive,“ said Rainier van Roessel, member of the LANXESS Board of Management responsible for this area of business.
With its restricted production capability, the site, which employs some 90 people, has only limited suitability for serving the rapidly changing ion exchange market of the future, he added.
