LANXESS provides for clean water in Africa
Specialty chemicals company supports the reputed relief organization AMREF
LANXESS AG is actively helping to improve the quality of the water and thus the quality of life for people in Africa. Last year, the specialty chemicals company entered into a partnership through 2010 with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF), a reputed African relief organization. With financial assistance from the specialty chemicals group, AMREF is installing a water supply system able to adequately meet the needs of nearly 9,700 children at 25 schools, and equipping the schools with sanitary facilities.
According to Germany's Foreign Office, around one billion people have no access to clean drinking water. Apart from that, 2.6 billion people, including one billion children, have no form of basic sanitation. Polluted water thus remains one of the main causes of disease infection around the globe.
Products from LANXESS are used around the world to treat drinking water. Ion exchange resins marketed under the name Lewatit® play an important role. They remove pollutants such as nickel, nitrate and certain hydrocarbons from drinking water.
