Business Unit ION wins LANXESS Innovation Award

The Business unit ION is the winner of the LANXESS Innovation Award in the category “Ecology”. On June 5th, around 200 experts from the company presented their latest projects at the company’s second Innovation Day in Leverkusen.

The Innovation Day concluded with the presentation of the “LANXESS Innovation Awards” to outstanding development projects by Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia,

The award in the segment Ecology has been given to the project "Arsenic Selective Resin". The team developed a new ion exchange resin which selectively removes arsenic from drinking water.

By combining polymer chemistry and anorganic chemistry - in this case iron oxyde - a resin is produced, that is easy to use and sports a high selectivity for arsenic. With this innovative idea the new limit of 10 ppb required by the WHO can be easily achieved in many parts of the world.
