Advantages:
- Removing of impurities by internal backwashing
- Operating flow rates between 0 - 100% possible
Disadvantages:
- Backwashing before regeneration is absolutely necessary
- High chemical consumption for a good regenerated polishing layer
- Low efficiency of the vessel volume ( 100 % freeboard )
- High regeneration time and rinse water consumption
